During the past month,
Willow Creek has had nine students involved in preparing for a district math
contest. On Saturday, Dec. 1st, that team participated in Cherry
Creek's Rich Morrow Math Challenge. It was our first year participating in the
district competition, and we did exceptionally well!! Mr. Thomas, Gina Wu, and
Mr. Shaikh served as coaches for the team.
The Math Challenge offers
a fun day for young mathematicians to compete individually and as a team, to
meet students from other schools, to watch middle-school students participate
in a mock MathCounts competition, and to be recognized for their achievements.
The Willow Creek Team was
comprised of strong math students selected using a variety of criteria,
including test scores and classroom performance. There were three each from 3rd,
4th, and 5th grade:
Ethan W., Cade M., and Abbas S.
Bryn N., Justin S., and Rahul T.
5th grade: Max
F., Viyan G., and Riley M.
Based on about three
hours of competition with 22 other district schools, various awards were earned
by our school! The 3rd and 4th graders won team awards in
our division, Viyan G. won an individual award for a high individual score, and
Rahul T. won the TOP Math student of the ENTIRE Competition!
We have a plaque for the school, and several
of the students involved were given trophies and medals. Make sure to
CONGRATULATE them!! We're very proud of their accomplishments!
