History

Willow Creek opened as a neighborhood school in 1977 to meet the needs of a new community. Due to neighborhood population changes, combined with the desirability of the school’s learning environment, approximately 28% of students currently attending Willow Creek are non-residents of our district. An additional 10% of the current student body is comprised of “School of Choice” students, an option provided by Colorado state law that allows parents to actively select school enrollment for their children within their home district.

Willow Creek Elementary continues to celebrate the recognition received in 1999, 2006, and 2018 as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Willow Creek has also been recognized with the John Irwin Award (excellence) and the Governor’s Award (growth) every year since the awards’ inception. As a result of the 2008-2009 bond/budget election (3A and 3B), Willow Creek underwent a major renovation. Upgrades to classrooms include increased total square footage, new technology (document cameras, sound enhancement systems), solar tubes (natural lighting), and new casework. With the passing of 3A and 3B again in 2016, our library benefited from a renovation to accommodate more technology and project-based learning through STEM. With the bond and budget passed in 2018, we were able to install new flooring in the Gym and hallways.
